The history of Carrier's development dates back to 1902, when Willis Carrier invented the world's first air conditioner designed to control humidity and air temperature in a printing house, already in 1906 received a patent for an indoor air treatment device. In 1915, Willis Carrier created the Carrier Engineering Company, which in 1922 invented the Carrier centrifugal chiller. The first Carrier air conditioners were used to cool movie theaters and from 1925 to 1930 more than 300 movie theaters were equipped with Carrier air conditioning systems. In 1925, the first ship was equipped with an air-cooling system. Since 1930, Carrier air conditioners have been used on railroad cars in New York. An important impetus for the development of Carrier was the crisis of 1929, when it was necessary to produce more affordable than industrial air conditioners for domestic use, which made it possible to air-condition private homes and densely populate the southern states. In 1936, the first automobile air conditioner was installed in a bus carrying passengers along the world's hottest Baghdad-Damascus route.

The world's first air conditioners using a non-ozone depleting refrigerant, launched under the Carrier brand, for which it received an award from the Environmental Protection Agency. Carrier air conditioners are used in the Kremlin Palace, the White House, the Sistine Chapel, the Library of Alexandria in Cairo, the Museum of Modern Art in London, the Royal Opera House in Madrid and other buildings around the world.
