In the mid-19th century, German immigrants founded the Amana religious community in the U.S. state of Iowa. Over time, this settlement turned into a large village.

In 1932, the leaders of this community invited its residents to abandon public utilities. This step helped expand the business, develop infrastructure, and acquire new technologies. Amana grew and developed, and the first plants and factories appeared.

In 1934, the novice businessman George Foerstner proposed establishing the production of refrigerators designed for drinks. It was then that the Electrical Equipment Company was formed, later renamed Amana Refrigeration. In 1936, the production of large refrigeration units for storing food was established here. The company's products became very popular in the United States.

In the early 1940s, Amana Refrigeration, for its achievements in the implementation of advanced technologies, was awarded the prestigious E classification and received an order from the US Department of Defense for the production of portable refrigerators for naval and ground forces. However, the company did not stop producing industrial refrigerators. In 1947, an innovative product for the whole world entered the market - a vertical household freezer. In 1956, Amana Refrigeration began to produce air conditioning systems. A year later, the first refrigerator with a freezer compartment located below was introduced. Three years later, a two-chamber refrigerator with a removable front panel appeared, which not only served as a food storage device but also as a kind of interior decoration. The company began to work on various designs for its flagship product.

In 1967, Amana began manufacturing microwave ovens. The debut model was the 115-watt Radarange microwave. A year later, the company introduced a unique "refrigerator within a refrigerator" system designed for refrigerators. It included a special chamber for storing meat, doubling its shelf life.

In the 1970s, Amana reduced the energy consumption of its appliances. In 1988, the company significantly expanded its product range, offering new models of refrigerators, air conditioners, and microwave ovens. A year later, a refrigerator with a transparent interior was released, followed by built-in refrigerators. As a result, Amana transformed from an ordinary household appliance manufacturer into the largest corporation that presented its products not only in the United States but throughout the world. In 2001, it was acquired by a corporation called Maytag.
